Reflections from the Himalayas | Pearl of Hope Project, June 2025

This June, I returned once again to the Himalayan villages for the Pearl of Hope Project. Each visit brings a deep sense of connection, reminding me that the heart of our work is not in what we give, but in what we share and receive.

Across Villages, Across Lives

Over several days, I visited different families in mountain villages—homes with little in material things but rich in spirit. They welcomed me with warmth and trust, offering tea and stories that echo generations of perseverance and hope.

I also visited their schools. Though modest in structure, each classroom was full of life—children clutching their notebooks, eager to learn, proud to show how far they’ve come.
In one school, a girl beamed as she recited what she’d learned that week. In another, another girl introduce me to their friends in school.

Education here is not taken for granted—it is cherished. And that makes every step of this journey worthwhile.

A Quiet Transformation

There was one moment during this trip that touched me deeply.

Years ago, I met a boy who stayed home, quiet and withdrawn. He wasn’t attending school. He had that still, faraway look in his eyes—like someone watching the world without fully entering it.

This time, I saw him again.

He is now studying to become a monk.
His robes were clean and neatly worn. He walked with more confidence. He looked me in the eye.

He is still learning, still growing—but the transformation is undeniable.

It’s these moments that define the Pearl of Hope Project. We don’t just support education—we offer the chance for children to discover their path. For some, that may be a classroom. For others, it may be a monastery.

What matters is that they have the opportunity to choose.
And someone who believes in their journey.

Tea, Parents, and Shared Dreams

I sat down with parents in each village—quiet pillars of strength who carry the future on their shoulders. One told me, “My daughter wants to become a teacher.” Her eyes were full of both hope and concern.

We listened. We promised to continue supporting her child’s dream.
Because we are not just visitors—we are part of their story now.

And they are part of ours.

A Bracelet from a Friend

One afternoon, a friend I’ve known since the very beginning of my Pearl of Hope journey handed me a bracelet. Handmade, simple, and full of feeling. My friend has been cheering me on from the start—offering encouragement when I doubted myself, reminding me of why I began.

That bracelet now stays close to me, a quiet reminder that I’m never walking alone.

Until We Meet Again

I will come back.
Because what we are building together is more than a project. It’s a bond. A journey. A shared hope.

I always return from these villages with more than I bring.
And I can’t wait to return —to grow, to give, and to walk forward together.
