Maiko’s Challenge
Inspired by her hometown of Ise Shima, the birthplace of all cultured pearls, Maiko Makito is dedicated to preserving the rich history of cultured pearls. As founder of the Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewelry in Asia and host of Pearl Appreciation Workshops, she educates enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. Maiko is also producing the Pearl Legacy Project, a documentary highlighting the artistry and traditions of cultured pearls.
Through the Pearl of HOPE Project, Maiko has supported children’s education across Asia for over 30 years, creating opportunities for future generations.
