We were honoured to be invited as a guest speaker at the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) Ladies Leaders Lunch in Singapore, where business leaders and professionals gathered for an afternoon of meaningful dialogue and connection.
As a Singapore-based Japanese pearl jewelry brand, Pearl FALCO was proud to contribute to this inspiring platform through a talk that went beyond jewelry—into the deeper themes of leadership, sustainability, and the meaning of value.
A Leadership Talk Through the Lens of Pearls
During the session, our CEO, Maiko MAKITO shared her journey from corporate life to leading a heritage pearl jewelry business originating from Ise Shima, Japan—the birthplace of cultured pearls.
Rather than focusing only on products, the talk explored:
- The human stories behind pearl cultivation
- The relationship between nature and craftsmanship
- The importance of seeing value beyond labels and certifications
- How pearls can reflect leadership shaped by time, patience, and resilience
In a world driven by speed and measurable outcomes, pearls offer a different perspective—one that invites us to slow down and truly observe.
Sustainability and the Future of Pearls
A key theme of the session was sustainability. Akoya pearl cultivation, which produces some of the world’s finest pearls, is currently facing significant challenges due to environmental changes. Over the past decades, production has declined dramatically, highlighting the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems and support local communities connected to pearl farming.
Pearls are one of the few gems created by living organisms. Their existence depends entirely on the health of nature.
This makes them not only a symbol of beauty—but also a reflection of our environmental responsibility.
A Meaningful Exchange with Women Leaders in Singapore
The SICC Ladies Leaders Lunch created a unique space for open conversation among women leaders across industries. It was a reminder that leadership, much like pearls, is not formed instantly—but shaped over time through experience, challenges, and care.
From Talk to Experience — The Pearl Legacy
This session is part of a larger initiative, The Pearl Legacy Project, which aims to share the deeper story of pearls through education, storytelling, and film.
Building on this momentum, we are now introducing:
The Pearl Legacy Experience — Film Screening & Cultural Storytelling Program
A unique corporate and cultural program in Singapore that includes:
- A documentary screening filmed across Japan, Indonesia, and China
- Live storytelling by Maiko Makito
- Insights into sustainability, craftsmanship, and global pearl cultures
- Interactive discussion on value, purpose, and human connection
Designed for corporate audiences, private groups, and cultural organisations, this experience invites participants to move beyond learning—to truly see, feel, and rethink value.
