Our journey of Pearl Legacy Project began with a simple dream — to share the hidden beauty of Akoya pearls, the devotion of the people who nurture them, and the charm of Ise-Shima, Japan’s birthplace of cultured pearls.

As we visited pearl farms across the world — from Southeast Asia to China and beyond — our mission evolved. We realized it’s not only about showcasing beauty, but about sharing the stories, traditions, and harmony with nature behind each pearl, and helping people understand how to differentiate their types and grades.

Every pearl carries its own character and charm:

  • South Sea Pearls embody sustainability — creating employment while preserving untouched natural environments in Southeast Asia and French Polynesia.

  • Freshwater Pearls symbolize abundance and resilience — the mother clam can produce hundreds of pearls with ease, allowing control over color, size, and shape.

  • Akoya Pearls reflect the heart of Japan — their unmatched mirror-like luster and subtle interference colors capture the essence of Japan’s four seasons and pristine oceans.

Yet, Akoya pearl farming now faces critical challenges from global warming and an aging population. Through our documentary, we hope to protect and pass down these treasures of nature to future generations — reminding the world that pearls are more than jewels; they are living stories of nature, people, and legacy.
